Welcome to Bethesda Free Church

Bethesda Free Church is a historic Church in the centre of the city of Sunderland. Established in the middle of the 19th century it has had a long history of faithfulness down the years. Former Pastors of the calibre of Graham Scroggie and Sidlow Baxter have occupied the pulpit and kept the ethos of sound Biblical preaching on which the church was established.

As well as faithful preaching the church is known for its evangelistic fervour; several missions in various parts of the city have been associated with Bethesda, Hallgarth Mission Bright Street in Fulwell and Ford Estate Mission Hall in Flodden Road are an integral part of the church.

Moving forward in the 21st century Bethesda seeks to maintain the Biblical integrity of its founding members, staying faithful to the word of God in this post modern era is our earnest desire, along with a heartfelt yearning for relevant evangelism.

Being convinced that the relativism of this era is detrimental to society in general and the church in particular we at Bethesda believe and are committed to the solid foundation of Biblical principle.

Rapture Bumper Sticker

Suddenly and without warning one day, perhaps soon, Jesus will come in fulfilment of His promise to believers and take them out of this world.

This event is known as the Rapture and it is phase one of His second coming. From all over the globe true believers in Christ will disappear, the Bible says it will be “in a moment in the twinkling of an eye.”

All those who are not true believers will be left behind to face the end time judgements described in the book of Revelation. Scripture warns that those who have heard the gospel and rejected it will not be given a second chance to be saved, for them it will be too late.

In light of these things we should be prepared; as such you must seek for the salvation that’s freely available through Christ. He died on the cross to pay for your sins and so by trusting on His sacrifice and finished work alone you can have the gift of eternal life.

The promise of the Rapture will then be applicable to you and so when He comes He’ll be coming for you.
