Leadership
Bethesda is blessed to have many members who come together to serve the Lord, one another and the community. We want to take a moment to introduce you to a few of those in leadership.
Pastor
Dr Boreland was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1959. Through reading the Word of God he realised that he was a lost sinner in need of God's salvation. One night as a boy of 14, in a quite place at home, he surrendered to the Lord for salvation. Four years later, he surrendered to the Lord for service.
The verses the Lord gave him were 2 Timothy 4:1-5 "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of they ministry."
These verses impressed upon him the need to preach the Word, keep Watch and do the Work. When he was nineteen he went to bible college and at 22 he was called to the pastorate of his first church.
He met his wife Jayne while they were students at Belfast Bible College. They were married in July 1983 and now have 2 boys, Andrew and David.

Elders and Deacons
Bethesda has a great leadership team that includes 4 elders: Mr. Bob Evans, Mr. Walter Cameron, Mr. Ted Ritchie and Mr. Willis Thompson. Brief biographies of these men and details about our deacons will be added to the site soon.
Mission Leader
Martin Wickens is originally from Newbury, in Berkshire. A southerner by birth but in recent years he has moved north by choice. Brimpton Baptist Church is his home church and in many ways finds it his home away from home. At Brimpton, he heard the gospel and was saved, went to the Christian school established by the pastor, met his wife and was ordained. He accepted Christ as his Saviour on Friday 4th August 1994.
At the age of 17, he knew the the Lord was calling him into full time service.
The Lord has given him the opportunity to assist in various ministries. Martin studied at Emmanuel Baptist Bible School in Northern Ireland, and in 2003 graduated with a Bachelor's in Theology. One of the greatest blessings is his wife, who by the grace of God, he married on 15th May 2004. He was pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Glengormley, Northern Ireland from September 2005 to September 2008.
Martin is currently the leader of our missions, Ford on Flodden Road and Hallgarth on Bright Street.
